We are glad that you’ve received your small gift of thanks from us at barley & birch. Thank you again for being such a great part of our 2010. We hope you have a wonderful new year. (:
We wanted to share some photos and videos of the creation of your candles! As we mentioned in our note, they were created next to the barley&birch office space in Defiance, Ohio by the talented crew at S Type Creative.
This is Cody, he is working on some pieces similar to the tea bowls that he shaped for each of you.
After he shaped each piece, he fired them in the kiln in the back of the shop. (Here are a few of your bowls on top of the kiln.)
Before Cody put the beautiful celadon glaze on them, he waxed the bottoms. In the below video, he is waxing other pieces, but you get the idea. That is Rebecca pouring the votive candles. She owns S Type Creative and is so inspiring and impressive. (That is me- Kyle- filming and chatting with Rebecca as she pours other votive candles that were hot cocoa scented!)
After the bottoms of the pieces were waxed, Cody hand-glazed each one and re-fired them.
Then, when the tea bowls were glazed and ready, they were laid out so Rebecca could pour the candles. How neat, right? Below is the progression as the rows of tea bowls were filled and cooled/hardened with their wicks.
Again, we hope you enjoy your candle and, eventually, your tea bowl, flower jar, change dish, whatever. Thank you for being you!

Kyle!
thank you so much for including us in your Holiday giving this year. We enjoyed every step of the process and are now renovating our entire studio space to make it more efficient and ever so much more inspiring!
You’re fantastic!!!
