Is there anything more refreshing than lemonade on a hot day? Yes – lavender lemonade – and we’re sharing our secret family recipe! I have surprised so many friends with this, and as a small party gift or picnic addition, it always gets the BEST response.
Serve it with our vanilla-wafer “hamburger” treats for a perfect afternoon tea party or special summer celebration refresher for kids. And guys, that gorgeous color…its NATURAL – there is absolutely no food coloring here. Added benefit? Since lavender is a natural relaxer, worries melt away with every glass…

Lavender Lemonade Ingredients:
Makes roughly 1/2 gallon and serves 4-6
- 3 Tbsp edible lavender (we used local, but I like this edible kind too)
- 6 cups water
- 1/4 c. honey
- 1/4 c. sugar
- 6 lemons, juiced (or 2 cups of lemon juice)
DIY Low-Sugar Lavender Lemonade Instructions:
- Combine water, honey and sugar over heat
In a medium pot bring 6 cups of water to a boil, stirring in the honey & sugar. Heads up, we like our lemonade SOUR in this household, so I’ve used much less sugar than a typical lemonade recipe calls for. Depending on what you’re used to, you may want to add a 1/2 or full cup – but remember, you can always add more later!
- Add lavender, cover and let simmer
Reduce to a simmer, add the lavender and cover for 30 minutes to 1 hour (the longer you can let it infuse, the stronger the taste and pinkish hue will be). Just a note on the edible lavender – we stop at the beautiful Lavender Hill Farms in Northern Michigan every year for ours, but if you don’t live in the area, you can purchase their culinary lavender here. - Pour lemon juice into a pitcher
Pour your lemon juice into a pitcher and top with a sieve.
- Add the strained lavender liquid to the pitcher of lemon juice
Pour the lavender mixture into your lemon juice, straining out the hard bits. Your lavender mixture will look brown on the stove, but watching it all turn pink as the two mix is truly the delight of this process!
- Refrigerate until cold and serve over ice
Beautiful, naturally light pink lavender lemonade! Refrigerate until cold and serve with tons of ice cubes and lovely little lemon slices!
For an extra delicious treat (and a little pop of color) I also like to garnish with blueberries, raspberries or other in-season fruits. Or pour into a mold, freeze and serve as a super-refreshing and unique popsicle!
A mason jar or simple clear glass container with a good lid is the best way I’ve found to save it in the fridge for later, when you’re ready to go, throw on a simple tag or tie on some lavender, and you have the perfect summer hosting gift or picnic addition!
This is so delicious on a hot day, and (pro tip!) is also very easy to spike for adult picnics or seaside sit-and-sips. Add a little lemincello, gin or vodka, depending on your tastes + a splash of tonic…summer heaven in a glass!
