10 Ideas for DIY 90s-Themed Games

8 DIY 90's games everyone in the family will enjoy!

DIY Scattergories

First on our list is this free DIY Printable Scattergories Game from Sugar & Cloth, because for whatever reason, I was a certifiable Scattergories ADDICT throughout my entire youth. From family game nights to secret basement hangouts with high school friends, I could always count on the familiar column of letters for unexpected entertainment. This version takes a seasonal approach, so you too can play all year round, at any age!

DIY Magic 8 Ball

What are YOU going to ask your DIY Magic 8 Ball from HelloMaphie? The best part of making your very own shakeable crystal ball is that you can come up with all of the answers! And just as perfect for pajama parties now as they were back then.

DIY M.A.S.H.

Has the Magic 8 ball left you with some questions? Dig into your future with the free DIY MASH Printable from Studio DIY – the classic fortune-telling contest between friends! The notebooks of pink and purple Lisa Frank paper I used to burn through playing this…

DIY Catch and Toss

The ’90s aesthetic is strong with this DIY Catch and Toss Game from Babble. One of the best beach games I remember playing! The velcro-covered balls always got a little shaggy after a few rolls across our sandy-covered beach towels, but when the sun was out and the boombox was on, it didn’t even matter – we were living our best Baywatch lives.

DIY KerPlunk

This classic game of marbles and sticks has been cleverly re-envisioned with a cardboard tube and straws – it’s DIY KerPlunk from Babble Dabble Do! This is such a smart recycle for kids who can craft the game themselves and enjoy some STEAM-learning, problem-solving fun.

DIY Thin Ice

What do you get when you combine water beads, an embroidery hoop, some spare parts, and a few paper towels? A sensory-packed, fine motor skill-building game of DIY Thin Ice from barley & birch! All the fun of the original without the need to store those awkward plastic pieces – just break it back down when you’re done playing.

90s inspired games - DIY POGS and a DIY magnetic Tetris game

DIY Pogs

World Pog Federation Members unite! These Free Printable ’90s Pogs from Creating Creatives are going to bring the memories of slammers and bottle caps come flooding back. If your school didn’t ban these back in the day, then you probably never knew the true joy of gambling away your snacks on them during recess.

DIY Tetris

Tetris was the first game I was gifted for my Gameboy in 1990, and as soon as I saw this Magnetic DIY Tetrific Game from Babble Dabble Do the song started playing in my head. Ana’s magnetic version can be popped on the fridge for some ongoing collaborative puzzling action (and is a free printable!)

90s inspired games - DIY GUTS obstacle course and a DIY skip-it

DIY GUTS Obstacle Course

D-D-D-Do you have it? GUTS! If you recognize that theme song, you’ll dig this GUTS Style Outdoor Obstacle Course from Martha Stewart. GUTS premiered on Nickelodeon when I was 12 and it was THE ultimate after-school must-watch show. Bonus points if you try to setup your own Aggro Crag!

DIY Skip-It

How resourceful is this DIY Skip-It from Babble Dabble Do?! I remember so many afternoons spent in the driveway trying to out-skip my neighbor. This up-cycled DIY version honestly would have worked out much better for me, as this one fogoes the BIG chunky ball that was always banging into my ankle for this smaller whiffle version.
