Are you looking for something unique to make with your kids this holiday season? Try putting together your own festive fox wreath! These little foxes are all snuggled up together and ready for winter with little scarves, hats (and even a few bells for good measure!). Shake! Shake! Shake!

To make this wreath we used salt dough. Have you ever tried mixing up your own batch? Salt dough is an extremely versatile medium for crafting, not to mention: inexpensive, easy and environmentally friendly. That makes it a total art supply win in our house.

BASIC SUPPLIES:
SALT DOUGH SUPPLIES:
Preheat oven to 225 degrees Fahrenheit. Make the salt dough. Pour 2 cups of flour, 1 cup of salt, and 1 cup of warm water into a bowl.
Mix until ingredients are well combined. You are looking for a playdough-like consistency. It should not stick to your hands. Slowly add more flour or water to reach the desired consistency.

Roll out the salt dough on parchment paper to about 1.5 cm thick. Use a fox cookie cutter to cut out 13 foxes.

Lay the foxes around in a circle, overlapping tails. Be sure to leave a space in between each of the foxes’ necks to weave the scarf ribbon through later.
Adjust to form a circle, Gently pressing the tails down to form a bond between pieces.Â
Bake in a preheated oven at 225 degrees Fahrenheit for about 4 hours. The dough will be hard when ready. Do not bake at a higher temperature as it will cause the dough to puff.

After the dough is finished baking and completely cooled you can start painting. We chose red because we love red foxes and it’s so festive for Christmas!Â
When the paint dries, use a glitter pen (or make a slurry of Mod Podge and glitter) to define the tails, ears, and fox whiskers. We used Mod Podge and Glitter here. It will be white until it dries. Once it dries, it will be simply sparkly!
Draw around each of the sparkly bits with a black Sharpie. Draw dots for the eyes and a little triangle for the nose.

Make little hats. (Or buy some like these.) To make the hats, use white felt. Cut a triangle shape about 4 inches at the base and 3.5 inches tall. Hot glue the triangle closed, adding a bell to the tip. Fold over the base to form the brim of the hat.
Bend the hat over and glue it down.

Weave the pom pom trim around the necks of the foxes to create their winter scarves. Go back through a second time, alternately, to cover the fox necks completely.
Glue down the ends on the backside of the wreath. Glue the hats on at an angle over one ear.
Now it’s time to step back and admire your work!

When included in our supply list, these products are affiliate links, and if you click through to make a purchase we receive a small commission that helps us re-order these supplies!
