Why just watch a 90s movie when you could craft it up at the same time?
As part of our 90s Week “Movies and TV Day,” I put together a list of over 40 family movie and craft combos. Super fun kids’ crafts, delightful art projects, and movie-themed STEM challenges you can pair with your favorite classic family films before, during, or after the show.
PS…be sure to visit our Halloween family movies & craft suggestions too!
Little cinephiles who are interested in a peek behind the scenes and the opportunity to try a little Hollywood-style role-playing will love our collection of filmmaking activities for kids or kid-friendly, hidden gem animated shorts list.

Make a storybook cardboard castle (from In The Playroom): complete with clusters of turrets, a drawbridge, classic castle touches, and plenty of creative room to give it your own fanciful twists!

Make DIY paper plate pig masks (from Creating Creatives for Red Ted Art): Cuddle up with your wee piglets for a heartwarming viewing of Babe – a movie that will make everyone oink with joy and possibly inspire a few dreams about becoming sheep-pig herders!
Embrace the snort-laughs by slipping on your own Babe-inspired paper pig masks, these printable (as free as our heroic little porker) ensure a squeal of a time playing “piggy in the middle” – just be careful no one gets stuck in the mud! That’ll do, pig – that’ll do.

Make DIY faux stained glass (from Babble Dabble Do): Who among us hasn’t secretly brought the house down with a car commute or hot shower rendition of “Hail Holy Queen”? To set the optimal lip-synching atmosphere, find yourself awash in the glow of your very own stained glass with this clever DIY!

Make a DIY tabletop ice hockey rink (from Handmade Charlotte): Quack, QUACK, Mr. Ducksworth! This takes your average penny hockey board and raises you actual ice! For a true ’90s night hat trick, watch the movie, make your own rink, and win the game by implementing the stealth “Flying V.”

Make potato heads (from Handy With Scissors): DIY everyone’s favorite cantankerous spud with this Picasso-like project using your very own REAL potatoes. No small plastic parts here, folks – these potato heads are suitable for ANY age!

Make DIY kids’ homemade face masks (from Mom Junction): As much as I desperately wanted to find a DIY silicone mask kids’ craft – it felt a little beyond what can be accomplished during a two-hour movie (wink!). Instead, pour yourselves some cuppas, add sugar as desired, and go full Euphegenia Doubtfire/Daniel Hillard-style with a whipped cream facial. One lump or two, dearies?

Make a DIY peanut piñata (from Handmade Charlotte): Put on your team caps, for a classic family movie that’s sure to score a home run with your little sluggers. Post-game, keep the excitement alive with a DIY peanut piñata, which, much like the uncatchable pitches in the movie, will have the kids swinging wildly and laughing hysterically until it showers down treats as sweet as victory!

Make recycled aliens (from barley & birch): Blast off into an evening of excitement with this film and craft pairing that will have your little space explorers starry-eyed and dreaming of lunar adventures.
Ignite their imaginations further with out-of-this world aliens (made from recycled supplies) that’ll have them over the moon and giggling with joy, even if the closest they’ll get to outer space is a pretend voyage around the living room!

Make a rainforest in a jar (from The Crafting Chicks): This duo is sure to leave your kiddos buzzing with excitement and chatting about fairy friendships.
After the eco-adventure, keep the green thumb fun growing with a DIY rainforest in a jar project – it’s less maintenance than a pet bat like Batty Koda and might spark a love of nature that’s as deep as Crysta’s magical forest!

Make a tabletop secret garden (with printable) (from Lotta Magazine): This just might be the sweetest, most pure movie & craft pairing on the whole list. Build your own (natural!) secret garden with the help of this perfectly charming printable while you watch a classic English story.

Make a 3-D cardboard Home Alone house (from Three Busy Boys): Inspire your little ones to plot their own epic booby traps with a screening of this holiday classic. Once the credits roll, let their creative schemes unfold with a DIY miniature of Kevin’s house – just remind them that real-life paint cans swinging from the stairwell aren’t as funny as they look in the movies!

Make DIY paper dogs (from Alpha Mom): Unleash the fun with a viewing of this tail-waggingly funny film that’ll have your little ones giggling with delight.
Continue the puppy love by crafting adorable paper dogs that might not drool like our famous Saint Bernard, but are sure to fill your home with papercraft joy, and perhaps the odd paper-based fetch game!

Make a lion dance craft (from Oh Creative Day): Roll out the red carpet for an empowering screening of a beloved animated classic that’s sure to leave your little warriors ready to conquer mountains. As the epic tale unfolds, let their creativity roar with a DIY lion dance craft that’s perfect for their own dramatic performance.

Make salt dough dinosaur fossils (from Kiwi Co.): Paleontology became about 10,000% cooler the year this movie was released. Prepare for a dino-mite movie night with “Jurassic Park”, a thrilling adventure that will have your little archaeologists stomping around like T-Rexes and scanning the shadows for raptors.
After the earth-shaking excitement, keep their Jurassic jitters at bay by molding their very own salt dough fossils – a prehistoric DIY project that’s as much fun as seeing a brontosaurus ambling around a secret tropical island (well…almost).

Make a DIY library book tote (from hello, Wonderful): Prepare to be spellbound..this movie and craft combo will fill your tiny bookworms’ minds with magic and mischief (keep an eye out for any floating chalk!).
Whip up some DIY library book totes, perfect for their next bibliophilic adventure – just don’t let them stuff in too many books, or they’ll start wishing they had Matilda’s telekinesis to carry them home!

Make a DIY cardboard basketball hoop (from Caitlin Betsy Bell). Well, everything old is new again because this classic has been remade! Get ready to jam with a fly cardboard b-ball hoop.

Make a DIY cardboard lion mask: This combination is always a roaring success! Gather your little cubs and embark on a pawsome movie and craft session. Grab some cardboard, a pair of scissors, and non-toxic paint for wild Lion King-inspired masks. Oh, the joy when they transform into little Simbas and Nalas, prowling around the living room with adorable cardboard manes!

Make DIY tabletop S’Mores (from Polka Dot Chair): After all these years, the Sandlot is still the official first movie of summer in my house. It has it all: baseball, bubblegum, campouts, fireworks, and S’mores. Hitch up a bedsheet, break out a projector, and fire up this DIY tabletop campfire – Ham will instruct you on the rest.

Make a cardboard camel (from Brainy Beginnings Network): If your childhood was filled with dreams of Arabian nights, you are in major luck. Flying carpets and an amazing cardboard camel craft are ready to transport you to a whole new world…

Make paper race cars from (Little Monster Blog): Cruise into family fun with a heartwarming screening of “Stuart Little”, a film that will have your kiddos cheering for the tiniest hero and yearning for their own pint-sized pet mouse.
Once the checkered flag waves on the screen, it’s off to the races with DIY miniature race cars, offering plenty of vroom-vroom action that might make you wish for a Stuart of your own to navigate the traffic jams in your living room!

Make cardboard musketeer swords (from Parents Magazine): You might remember this movie more for its classic song than the movie itself. And if you don’t remember the tune, grab a sword and fire up Spotify. “”Cause when it’s all for one – it’s one for all.” *Sigh* I miss 90s Bryan Adams hits!

Make DIY flameless camp lanterns: Pack your imaginary bags for a charming screening of “The Parent Trap”, a film that will whisk your kids off to summer camp and have them planning secret twin switcheroos.
After the reel of hijinks wraps, continue the cabin fun with DIY flameless camp lanterns, a craft so delightfully camp-y, you’ll all be ready to pitch a tent in the living room and share spooky stories – hold the lizard pranks, please.

Make a full pirate play set (from Creativebug): Sail into Neverland with a swashbuckling good time that’ll have your little pirates shouting “Bangarang!” and sword-fighting with invisible foes.
As the final “Yo ho!” echoes, keep the adventure afloat with a DIY pirate play set – perfect for hunting pretend treasure, and so engaging that you might just find yourself yearning for a sprinkle of Tinker Bell’s pixie dust to join in the fun!

Make a DIY mason bee house (from Natural Beach Living): I’d love to know the exact number of slumber parties that were made and subsequently ruined by the traumatic turn of events this OG dramedy took.
If you’ve never seen My Girl, I’ll save the spoiler alert and let you watch yourself to discover why a DIY bee house is a heart-breakingly perfect craft accompaniment to this tear-jerker.

Make a DIY play bobsled track (from Along Came Cherry): Strap in for a laughter-filled ride with “Cool Runnings”, a movie that’ll have your tiny team shouting “Feel the rhythm, feel the rhyme, get on up, it’s bobsled time!”.
After the final high-five, keep the cool times rolling with a DIY paper bobsled track, a craft that’s so thrilling, your living room will turn into a mini Calgary ’88 Winter Olympics – without the ice… and the cold… and the actual bobsledding.

Make a DIY play dog collar and leash (from Cucicucicoo): Get ready for adventure with “Homeward Bound”, a film that will have your kiddos rooting for Shadow, Chance, and Sassy. Then get your crafty paws to work making a quick DIY fabric dog leash and collar for stuffed animals. Pair it with a kid-made pet journal for more four-legged fun.

Make a handmade treasure map (from barley & birch): Ahoy, mateys! Set sail for hilarity with one of my throwback movie favorites – packed with laughs, pirates, and, of course, everyone’s favorite felt-faced crew.
After the Muppet shenanigans wrap up, extend the voyage by crafting your maps (along with some DIY pirate gold), the perfect activity to help your mini-Long John Silvers navigate the treacherous seas (or living room carpet), just watch out for the rogue cannonball (or foam ball) attacks!

Make DIY button rings (from ART CAMP): If you’ve always wanted a house just like the one in Father of the Bride, you probably suffer from Unrealistic 90s Movie Goal Syndrome.
For a more attainable goal, try this adorable button ring craft on for size. And if you can keep your eyes dry watching your mini-me discover George, Nina, Annie, and Franc for the first time, you win a sentimental slice of “KEK”!

Make a rocket pack backpack (from Little Button Diaries).

Make orange pomanders (from The Blue Barn). Winona forever!

Make a DIY comic strip (from Picklebums).
